Star Trek: Discovery is about to launch into warp speed with episode 103, “Context is for Kings.” Here’s what you need to know to watch.

Star Trek: Discovery wowed audiences with its lush visuals and the potential for some great adventures moving forward. The first two episodes set up the story but are not (entirely) part of the story fans will see moving forward. That means episode 103’s “Context is for Kings” is the unofficial start to the show.

Here’s the synopsis of the episode from IMDB:

“Burnham finds herself aboard the U.S.S. Discovery, where she quickly realizes things are not as they seem, including the mysterious Captain Gabriel Lorca.”

Now that Michael Burnham has been sentenced for mutiny and her role in the events that led to a Federation war with the Klingons, she is being recruited for a special mission aboard the U.S.S. Discovery. But what kind of mission is this?

Star Trek: Discovery is intriguing for Star Trek fans because it operates outside of the traditional, peaceful world of the United Federation of Planets. Burnham is recruited because she’s smart and she has abilities that make her very valuable. Though she’s regarded as an asset in this mission, Burnham still needs to deal with the way she is seen by other members of Starfleet who blame her for the current war and all of the tragic losses sustained in the fighting.

Now that the show has debuted to solid ratings, will fans continue to pay for CBS All Access beyond their one week trial subscription, or if they’ll wait for Star Trek: Discovery to make it to Netflix? We should have a fairly good picture of the show’s viewership after this week’s episode.
